five weeks to go

Forgive me for writing about politics here. But it's that time again: election season. And I'm doing a few typical profile stories for state legislature races. Have you guys seen any papers doing those stories in innovative ways? I'm trying to bring some change to those routine stories.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Sorry to leave you hanging, Yoshi. You've probably already completed your profiles, but I'll put on my thinking cap and get back to you. Meantime, you could do something fun -- a little personality box as a distraction. Like, coffee -- cream and sugar? Or black? Washington -- plains and tumbleweed? Or sound and sea? Newspaper -- print or online? Sienfeld character -- I relate to (pick one) Jerry, George, Kramer, Elaine Neumann or ... because ... Anyway, Yoshi, there's my idea.

Yoshi, you've certainly done profiles by now, but I think a good way to do profiles is to ask a lot of why questions. Many people say they believe stuff, but when you ask them why, they stumble. The point isn't to make the stumble, but if your politicians can explain why they believe what they believe people might have a better idea of who they should vote for.
